A Few Rome and Southern Italy Travel Website Links

Here are some web links that may be of interest to readers who are traveling to Rome and/or Southern Italy:

Rome

When I am in Rome there are two places that are must visits; L’Angolo Divino, http://www.angolodivino.it, and Il Meridionale, http://www.meridionaletrastevere.com. L’Angolo Divino is an enoteca that has an extensive selection of Italian wines, including many wines from producers who adhere to sustainable viticulture. The enoteca has a dinner and  apertivo menu. When you visit please say hello from me to Max, the owner.

Il Meridionale located in Trastevere features both Roman and Southern Italian cuisine. The owners are from Calabria, hence, the focus on Southern Italian food. Il Meridionale features wines from all parts of Italy. When you visit please say hello from us to Cristina, the host.

Travel

To help me determine what part of Southern Italy to visit I review several websites. One is http://www.si-wine.it, an enoteca located in Vietri Sul Mare owned by my friend Simona de Pisapia. Simona’s website, which lists only Southern Italian wines, provides ideas on what wineries I should visit. She recently started another website, http://www.viniitalianidelsud.it (Wines from Southern Italy), which features articles on Southern Italy wineries.

Nick Mucci, a wine importer friend from Hingham. MA, imports Southern Italian wines from small family owned wineries that abide by sustainable viticulture.  Please check out his website, http://mucciimports.com, select wines to taste and make an appointment to visit a winery.

Susan Allen is an expert on travel to Italy. Based on her recommendation we visited Maratea

this year. She has written books and routinely blogs. http://susanvanallen.com.

Linda Plazonja, a friend and major proponent of sustainable agriculture and viticulture, arranges tours of Italy. http://tuttomorso.com.

Luciano Pignataro is the most read website on wine and food of Southern Italy. He has an Italian version, http://www.lucianopignataro.it and an English version http://www.lucianopignataro.com.

Karen Phillips is an American who has lived in the Naples area for the past twenty years. Her website focuses on restaurants and wineries in Campania. http://www.andiamotrips.blogspot.com.

Travel Arrangements

After I have decided what parts of Italy to visit I contact  http://www.thewinebus.it – Gaetano Petrillo, owner of The Wine Bus, a friend, sommelier, consultant, genealogist,  careful driver, who always aims to please customers. He is an expert on the Campania and Basilicata regions, and has contacts in other parts of Italy.
