Southern Italy Wine Culinary Travel Resource

Photos from April 2nd Wine Tasting

On April 2nd Ro and I co-hosted a fundraiser to help our neighbors Tara and Emily Sullivan raise money for charity in connection with their participation in the Boston Marathon. The wine tasting was held at their parents’ home. Over 60 people attended the fundraiser and based on the amount of food and wine consumed it appears as if all had a good time. Only Southern Italian wine, olive oil and cheese products were served.

Bob – in going thru our Dad’s belongings,as we prep to sell the house, came across info that indicates Alfonso Pepe was born in Maschito, Potenza (province) – Located Northeast of Basilicata, it is a small town covering a hill named Mustafà, about 594 metres (1,949 ft) above sea level. It is bounded by the comuni (Municipalities), of Forenza, Ginestra, Palazzo San Gervasio, Venosa. Have you seen Maschito? We can discuss May 14. Thanks to Rose for stopping by today. This blog is outstanding. Ron Pepe

So your Grandfather is from Maschito which borders Forenza. During our last trip we visited a winery in Maschito – Musto Carmelitano. Coincidentally We had planned on serving the wine on May 14th. I feature Musto Carmelitano in one of my earlier blogs written in Italy. Ro and I had lunch in Maschito. There is another winery, Cerentino, which has its vineyards in Maschito and its cantina in Rionero in Vulture. I plan to post a blog the next day or two that features Cerentino and three other wineries whose wines are not available in the USA. Did you check out Southern Italy Wine Facebook page. There is a photo of the three Lucani (Lucano is the ancient name of people from Potenza) – Tom, Joe and Dave.
