Antico Castello

Last year our friend Gaetano Petrillo of The Wine Bus introduced us to the brother/sister combination – Francesco and Chiara Romano of Antico Castello (in above photo third and fourth from right; their mother Fiorenza is on far right). Together with our friend Karen Munkley and Roseann’s sister Cathy and brother-in-law Mel, we spent a couple of hours tasting excellent wines, enjoying food and absorbing the history of Antico Castello. In preparing a summary of our visit, I discovered a video of Chiara (see below) that explains the history, wines and family involvement of Antico Castello. The video begins with a description of the horrific earthquake of 1980 in which approximately 4,000 people died in Avellino and Potenza. The Romano family decided to stay in San Mango Sul Calore, Avellino and start anew. The video describes the various roles of family members: Chiara’s and Francesco’s father Franco is in charge of  farming; Francesco is in charge of wine making  and trade;  Chiara is in charge of marketing and sales and their mother  is involved with planning and preparing food for wine tastings.

Most of the video is in Italian, but there are English subtitles; and when the video is in English there are Italian subtitles. In lieu of a more detailed report from me, please enjoy the video.
