Fundraiser to Benefit Franciscan Hospital for Children – Wine Auction

On Friday March 4, 2016 Franciscan Hospital for Children, located in Brighton, MA,  is having a fundraiser; “Dancing in the Rain Dinner Gala”. Since 1949 Franciscan has provided clinical therapeutic and educational programs for children with special health care needs. A large pediatric rehabilitation hospital, Franciscan serves a continuum of care – inpatient, residential, educational, surgical and outpatient. http://franciscanhospital.org.

Roseann and I have donated two baskets of wines to be auctioned at the Gala; a basket of Taurasi and a basket of Barolo. Please consider attending the Gala; it is fun and you will have the opportunity to bid on some excellent wines. If you are unable to attend, please consider making a donation, or participating in the auction on line. Please see the information below on how you can make a donation or participate in the on line bidding.

Taurasi Wines to be Auctioned

Mastroberardino, Radici 2003. The Mastroberardino family has produced wines with indigenous grapes for nearly 100 years. Their efforts in promoting the aglianico, piedirosso, falanghina, fiano di avellino, greco di tufo and coda di volpe grapes paved the way for other Campania wineries. Today Mastroberardino produces over 2 million bottles per annum. http://www.mastroberardino.com

Michele Perillo, Riserva 2004. Michele Perillo had his first bottling in 1999. Today he remains a small but highly successful producer with an annual production of less than 25.000. He operates his modest operations out of a large garage that does not have a formal tasting area.

Salvatore Molettieri, Vigne Cinque Querce Riserva 2006. Salvatore was the first of the “new” producers of Taurasi to make his own wine instead of selling grapes to other producers. Salvatore’s first bottling was in 1988. Currently, he along with his four sons produce about 70,000 bottles per annum, but they are looking to expand their production to 100.000 bottles per annum. http://www.salvatoremolettieri.com

Antonio Caggiano, Vigna Macchia dei Goti 2009. Antonio, an architect, started his winery several years after Salvatore Molettieri. With the assistance of reknown consultant, Luigi Moio, Antonio produces his Taurasi in the “Bourdeaux style”. http://www.cantinecaggiano.it

Terredora, DiPaolo 2005. This winery came into existence due a split in the Mastroberardino family. Today, like their cousins, Terradora has a wide array of wines made with indigenous grapes. They produces over 1.2 million bottles per annum. http://www.terredora.com
