Amalfi Coast and Salerno Day Nine

We left Rionero in Vulture to go to the Amalfi Coast for lunch at Osteria Reale which is located in Tramonti. Luigi Reale, the proprietor, also owns and operates an 11,000 bottle winery adjacent to the Osteria. We have visited Luigi’s winery a couple of times. After Tramonti, we were traveling to Salerno to check into Barone B&B for a five night stay.

Osteria Reale

We had an appetizer that included: prosciutto cutto, cow mozzarella, salami, dried sausage, capocollo, ricotta with lemon, frittata with potato and onions, escarole and black olive quiche, sfogliatina filled with broccoli and ricotta and smoked provola cheese. For the pasta plate, Ro had fusilli with bacon (face of pig) and chestnuts, Gaetano had ricotta-stuffed ravioli and I had gnocchi with ricotta inside. For the meat dish, Ro had rabbit stuffed with broccoli rabe and sliced potato on the side. (See photo on left).  Gaetano and I chose veal with mushrooms and potato on the side. With dinner we enjoyed a bottle of Reale’s Cardomone (80% piedirosso and 20% aglianico).  At top is a photo of Reale’s vineyard directly across from the osteria. Notice the Amalfi Coast mountains in the background.20151011_143248

Salerno

After we got organized at Barone B&B we took a walk along the Salerno waterfront. The walkway is about two miles long and provides panoramic views of the Salerno waterfront and Gulf of Salerno. We then made our way to the one and one-half mile passeggiata in the Center of Salerno where many people were walking and enjoying the warm Sunday evening.
