Irpinia Day – Food, Wine and Friendship – Bambinuto

On day two of our trip we enjoyed a day long celebration with friends from the Irpinia wine region. Our first stop was at Bambinuto; our fourth visit in as many years. We updated each other on our families, the latest vintages and whatever else came to mind.

Marilena is an innovator. She has two special wines premiering this year; a prosecco type Greco di Tufo and an aglianico named 2 1 2.4; a blend of grapes from 2015 (60%), 2014 (10%) and 2013 (30%) vintages. For 2015 there was no mechanical press of the grapes. For the other years there was a light press.

Marilena is creative with the use of the Greco di Tufo grape: this year she served the following Greco di Tufo based products: a beer (a light beer that reminded us of a Belgium wheat beer),  a Passito called Proditio and a brandy.

As you can see from the photos below we enjoyed a sumptuous lunch of food typical of the Irpinia Region paired with Marilena’a flavorful Falanghina and Greco di Tufo (Picoli) wines. In the above photo was a pasta course of homemade fusilli.
