Southern Italy Wine Culinary Travel Resource

Map Updated January 1, 2020

The updated map includes new wineries, accommodations and restaurants we visited, stayed or ate at this past October. Also included is a restaurant that we visited in 2018. To open the map please click on the word map (above on this post), which is between the words home and about.

Eight new wineries are added to the map, including for the first time, three wineries from the region of Molise: La Cantina Remo, Agricolavinica and Agricola Azienda Cieri. There are three Irpinia wineries added to the map: Cantine Dell’Angelo, Cantine del Barone and Ventitre`Filari. In addition,  a Vesuvio winery is added to the map; FloraMi Societa’ Agricola and a Campi Flegrei winery; Azienda Vitivincola Montespina Iovino. All the added wineries abide by organic principles in the vineyard and three are natural producers (use of indigenous yeasts only in the fermentation process) who are members of Raw Wine (Cantine Dell”Angelo, Cantine del Barone and Agricolavinica).

We have now visited 91 different wineries in Southern Italy and Sicily. No two wineries produce wine in the same manner, but all 91 producers believe that their winemaking techniques are superior.

One of the added accommodations to the map, B&B Il Nido della Quaglia, is centrally located in the City of Pozzuoli, which is located adjacent to Napoli. The B&B is a short walk to the ferry that makes multiple daily trips to the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida. It is a short distance from historic sites, including the third largest ancient amphitheater in Italy. Lastly, the B&B is a few hundred yards from our favorite restaurant –  Vini e Cucina. The other added accommodation, Agriturismo Terra e Sapori, is located near Cantina di Remo and Agricolavinica. It is a working farm that utilizes local products of Molise for meals.

There are two restaurants from Irpinia added to the map: Ristorante Megaron located in Paternopoli and La Carte Dei Filangieri Di Petrillo Antonio located in Candida. There is one restaurant from the City of Salerno added to the map: Da Sasa`. All the restaurants have seasonal menus that feature tastes and traditions of their area. In Avellino, broccoli in March and mushrooms in October are featured items blended with pasta or prepared as a timbale. Da Sasa` features all types of seafood, as expected.

Lastly, we had a couple of glasses of wine at Tozzabancone, an enoteca near the Duomo in Salerno. Tozzabancore has a wide selections of wines to taste by the glass. When we travel to Italy we search for a local enoteca. Tozzabancore is our “go to” enoteca in the City of Salerno.
